How do you spread the payments?
Updated: Jun 30

Let’s be honest—talking about money is usually the most stressful part of any home project. We’ve all heard the stories of "estimates" that double by the end of the first month. At Filby Builders, we don't work like that.
As a family-run team, our reputation is built on trust. We want you to enjoy watching your home transform, which is why we’ve built a process that keeps everything crystal clear from the first brick to the final lick of paint.
1. The "Scope of Works" (Your Project Roadmap)
Before we even pick up a tool, we need a plan. Usually, your chosen Architect will provide a detailed specification alongside your drawings. We love working from these—they are the roadmap for the whole build. We can recommend the teams we are more familiar with, if it helps you.
However, if you don’t have an Architect, don't worry—we can create a Scope of Works for you. This is a detailed list of every single task we’ll be doing. It means everyone knows exactly what is included. It looks a bit like this:
The "Guts": Replacing old copper piping with modern runs and installing new electrical circuits.
The Structure: Adding extra timber supports (noggins) to the walls to safely hold that heavy new floating vanity unit.
The Finish: Tanking (waterproofing) the shower area before tiling with your 600x600 porcelain tiles.
The Clean: A full site clear-up and professional "sparkle clean" before we hand the keys back.
2. The Fortnightly Cuppa & Catch-up
We don’t believe in sending one massive, scary bill at the end of the job. Instead, we work on a fortnightly billing cycle. Every two weeks, we’ll sit down together and go through:
What’s been done: We’ll tick off the items from our Scope of Works that are now complete.
What’s coming up: We’ll look at the next two weeks so you know exactly what materials are arriving.
The Invoice: You’ll get a clear breakdown of the work finished in those 14 days.
3. The Filby Promise
This is the rule we live by, and it’s the reason our customers recommend us:
We will never ask you for money without a detailed reason that we will discuss together.
If we open up a floorboard and find a "surprise" from a previous builder, or if a material price changes, we don't just add it to the bill and hope you don't notice. We stop, we have a chat, we explain the situation, and we decide the best way forward together.
Building Properly, Building Honestly
At the end of the day, we’re a family team building homes for other families. We’d much rather spend ten minutes over a brew explaining a cost today than have a difficult conversation in three months' time.
By keeping the paperwork as solid as the brickwork, we make sure the only surprise you get is how much you love your new home.
Got a project in mind? Let’s grab a tea and look at the "Scope" together!
